Shade Hotel Manhattan Beach is hiring a Sous Chef!

We are looking for an experienced, talented, and hospitable Sous Chef to join the Shade Family! The Sous Chef is responsible for working with the Executive Chef to oversee the culinary team and for successfully executing brunch, lunch and dinner at zinc@shade, private events of all types and sizes (5-400 ppl), holiday/special event functions, room service, and pool service. Shade Manhattan Beach has continuously maintained its status as the #1 ranked hotel in Manhattan Beach and is in the top 10% of most highly rated hotels in the world on Trip Advisor.

We are specifically looking for a Sous Chef who is an excellent leader AND has the desire and ability to execute great food for both dining room service and banquets. They possess immense discipline, integrity, and is driven to constantly improve. Our Sous Chef is confident enough to make decisions in the absence of the Chef and is comfortable working under pressure, in tight spaces, and within short timelines.

The Qualifications…

• Minimum 2 years experience as a Sous Chef, preferably at an upscale hotel
• Minimum 5 years experience in the kitchen of a high volume, upscale restaurant
• Banquet experience strongly preferred
• Strong leadership and delegation skills ~ leads by example
• Strong organizational skills and able to prioritize tasks
• Strong understanding of wage and hour, hiring, coaching skills
• A commitment to safety and a positive work environment
• Knowledge of Health Department guidelines and ServSafe certified
• The right applicant will have a passion for what they do. We are a food driven company committed to excellence and “finding the yes” for our guests. The right candidate will have the desire and ability to work on a property with many interacting departments including room service, events, and banquets. Great communication skills are a must.
